Would you choose Jesus or Barabbas?

The Choice: Jesus or Barabbas

Hello, my name is Richard Kent and Today I want to delve into the profound narrative of Jesus and Barabbas. But before we proceed, I urge you to envision yourself standing amidst the crowd during the trial of Jesus before Pontius Pilate in 33 AD. It’s the sacred time of Passover in Jerusalem, and both Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and Barabbas who is a convicted criminal, are presented before Pilate, shackled and awaiting judgment.

The Dilemma Unfolds

Pontius Pilate, facing the throng, is tasked with a pivotal decision — which of these two individuals should be set free? Jesus, the embodiment of divine grace and righteousness, or Barabbas, a notorious criminal? It’s crucial to understand the significance of Barabbas’ name — “Bar” meaning son, and “Abba” meaning father, indicating a spiritual lineage. While Jesus was the Son of God, Barabbas was, metaphorically speaking, the son of Satan.

The Irony of Redemption

In this pivotal moment, the crowd cries out for the release of Barabbas, a stark portrayal of humanity’s tendency to embrace darkness over light. Yet, within this seemingly unjust verdict lies the profound essence of the Christian gospel and also the innocent Son of God, Jesus, who willingly takes the place of the guilty, symbolized by Barabbas. It’s a powerful illustration of redemption and where in the undeserving are pardoned at the expense of the blameless.

The Ultimate Sacrifice

Jesus, the epitome of love and compassion, willingly embraces the cross, bearing the weight of humanity’s transgressions. His sacrifice is an act of unparalleled grace which therefore offers salvation to all who choose to accept it. Conversely, Barabbas, emblematic of sin and rebellion, walks free therefore underscoring the profound depth of God’s mercy and forgiveness.

The Decisive Choice

As spectators to this poignant scene, we’re compelled to confront a critical question, such as if given the choice, whom would we choose? The Son of God or the son of Satan? Jesus or Barabbas? In the words of Jesus himself, “Wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”

Embracing Transformation

To choose Jesus is to embark on a transformative journey, relinquishing the shackles of sin and embracing the abundant grace offered through His sacrifice. It requires a surrender of self and a commitment to walk in the path of righteousness. For in choosing Jesus, we are not merely pardoned, but ushered into a new life, redeemed and reconciled with God.

The Invitation

If you resonate with the call to embrace Jesus as your personal Saviour, I implore you to take a decisive step and  Confess your sins, relinquish your past, and also extend forgiveness to those who have wronged you. Invite Jesus into your heart, and through the cleansing power of His blood, you will be transformed into a new creation.

Conclusion: A Call to Action

In closing, the choice between Jesus and Barabbas extends far beyond a historical anecdote, it is a profound invitation to embrace redemption and salvation. We rejoice with you and stand ready to support you on your journey of faith.
