The Baptism In The Holy Spirit

Jesus Teaching The answer to all of the above Road Blocks is the Baptism is the Holy Spirit!

Receiving the Holy Spirit at conversion is not the same as the Baptism in the Holy Spirit! When you are first born again into the Kingdom of Heaven, you are like a little baby.

Scriptures concerning being born again

At the Last Supper, Jesus said: “I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever- the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you,” John 14:16-17

After the Resurrection Jesus said to them, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you. And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit,” John 20:21-22.

At this point, the disciples received the Holy Spirit, and they were born again.

Scriptures concerning the Baptism in the Holy Spirit

Glory Of God John the Baptist said, “I indeed baptise you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and fire,” Matthew 3:11.

Jesus commanded his born again disciples not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, “for John truly baptised with water, but you shall be baptised with the Holy Spirit not many days from now….but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth”, Acts 1:5,8.

This power given at the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, transformed Peter. Peter had denied Jesus three times in the night before the Crucifixion, but was dramatically changed following his Pentecost experience. Peter preached in Jerusalem immediately after his Baptism in the Holy Spirit, and 3,000 were born again on day one!

The Day of Pentecost

“Now when the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from Heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance,” Acts 2:1-4.

Notice that the purpose of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is primarily to give disciples of Jesus power to preach the Gospel! Speaking in tongues, and the other 8 gifts, are part of the package, but these are the tools for Evangelism!
