The Crucifixion Of Jesus

The Fulfilment Of Prophecy Concerning The Unbroken Bones

Jesus On The Cross The following prophecy is found in the Old Testament, along with many others about the Crucifixion.

Psalm 34:20, “He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.”

Because of the method of nailing of the hands and the feet, not a single bone was broken. However, crucified victims normally had their legs broken with a heavy hammer, to hasten death. This part of Crucifixion was called Crucifragrum.

In the case of Jesus Christ this did not happen, since He was already dead. This was unusual, and certainly happened in the case of the two thieves crucified with Jesus. It is a direct fulfilment of prophecy in Psalm 34:20.
