Noahs Ark Search

Ron Wyatt was an amateur, not a professional, archaeologist.

Noahs Ark Search Ron Wyatt’s amateur status is entirely consistent with God’s historical choice of men to represent Him, as indicated below. Like Moses, Ron Wyatt was an extremely humble man, a rare quality today, and a quality that perhaps endeared him to God.

Virtually all of the main characters in the New Testament would be regarded today as “amateur.” They would almost certainly come under vicious attack in today’s atheist society.

Despite popular opinion, God consistently chooses amateurs! This is confirmed in the following scripture:

Notice among yourselves, dear brothers, that few of you who follow Christ have big names or power or wealth. Instead, God has deliberately chosen to use ideas the world considers foolish and of little worth in order to shame those people considered by the world as wise and great.

He has chosen a plan despised by the world, counted as nothing at all, and used it to bring down to nothing those the world considers great, so that no one anywhere can ever brag in the presence of God.” 1 Corinthians 1:26-29 TLB.

The simple truth is that, in the Bible, God almost invariably used “amateurs”, and almost invariably by-passed “professionals”! For example:

  1. Jesus Christ was a carpenter and builder. Jesus did not have the formal training of a rabbi. The crowds addressed Jesus as “Rabbi” as a mark of respect for His teaching, not because he had attended the official training of a rabbi in Jerusalem.
  2. John the Baptist (Jesus’ cousin) was certainly not a member of the Sanhedrin, the professional religious establishment in Jerusalem. In fact he was greatly disliked by them!
  3. Matthew was a tax collector, and his profession was universally hated by the Jews.
  4. Mark was probably a teenager.
  5. Luke was a medical doctor, who gave up practising medicine completely.
  6. Peter, Andrew, James and John were all fishermen.
  7. Mary Magdalene had demons cast out by Jesus Christ.
  8. Very few members of the early Christian church had a high status in society.
  9. Nicodemus is the only named member of the Sanhedrin, and was greatly frightened by the authority of the Sanhedrin, which is why he visited Jesus at night.
  10. The book of Acts records that virtually all early churches met in the homes of named women followers of Jesus Christ.
  11. Saul was greatly used by God. Unusually, he was a member of the Sanhedrin, the religious authority in Jerusalem. After an encounter with the Risen Jesus Christ, he deserted the Sanhedrin, and himself became a member of the amateur following of Jesus, known as “Christians”. He changed his name to Paul, and was stoned to death by the furious Jews in Acts 14:19. However he was raised to life, and visited the Third Heaven whilst dead as recorded in 2 Corinthians 12:2. For a detailed discussion of this event, please see our information under Life After Death on this web site.
  12. David was not a professional soldier when he killed Goliath who, by contrast was very much a professional soldier. David was a shepherd, and was considered the least important member of his family.
  13. Moses was not a natural leader of men, since he was incapacitated by a stutter. Although he was brought up in Pharaoh’s household, his life started in a wicker basket on the River Nile, as his parents tried to save his life from certain death after Pharaoh passed a law that all Hebrew babies should be executed.
  14. Esther believed in a controversial and disliked foreign religion. It was Esther’s beauty, gentleness and wisdom rather than her position in society that earned her the king’s favour.

The list is almost endless!
